• British Airways will pay its 4,000 pilots 50% of their wages for two months
• Over 30,000 staff across the airline will be furloughed as part of the gov scheme
• No staff will be made redundant due to coronavirus
• Crew are facing up to 55% pay cut in new contracts
• MPs have called a move to fire and rehire staff on new contracts "a national disgrace", and "well below the standards we would expect from any employer"

• IKEA have paid their staff 90% of their usual wages while they were placed on furlough. However the company did not claim any money from the government.
• They plan to repay governments in other countries where they have participated in a state-run furlough scheme.

• ‍Tesco announced on 21 March: staff will get a 10% bonus, which is backdated from the 9 March, and runs until the 9 May.

• Aldi have announced 10% bonus for staff in their stores and distribution centres
• The company have donated almost half a million surplus Easter eggs to charity

I spoke to a source who said:

• Aldi is not participating in the gov furlough scheme.
• One of Aldi’s employees has been told they are unable to be furloughed or be paid sickness pay, despite being advised to shield themselves by their GP due to their child. Their child is undergoing treatment for an illness and is classed as extremely vulnerable by the government.

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “Any colleague who is clinically extremely vulnerable should not come to work, and will be fully paid until it is safe for them to return. The latest government advice states that those living with an extremely vulnerable person do not need to shield themselves, however we will review any such situations on a case-by-case basis.”

• A Labour MP, Siobhain McDonagh, tweeted about a very similar issue, though this could be the same as above.

• They have given out 500,000 free doughnuts to key workers across the UK
• Staff in the NHS, Fire and Police services were able to receive a free coffee and doughnuts each day
• NHS workers, policeman and firefighters get 50% discount off everything

• Tim Martin the boss of the Pub chain has said the shut down was 'over the top'
• He allegedly told workers they would not receive any pay from the 22 March until the Government pays the chain first
• He suggested to concerned staff that they should get jobs at Tesco instead. It could be weeks until they are paid
• The chain is now refusing to pay suppliers until the lockdown ends
• Update: they've u-turned, and will be paying staff 80% going forwards

• Travelodge gave one council four hours notice to relocate families and vulnerable people after deciding to immediately close. Temporarily housed residents were as old as 84
• They requested that the rent due on their properties is reduced by 80 per cent this year and 50 per cent next year. It accounts for half their fixed-costs
• They are being paid by the government to provide accommodation for homeless people

Home Bargains created a £30 million fund to pay staff:

• when they self-isolate

• The chain is withholding £33 million in rent on its stores
• Primark Bosses have taken a 50% pay cut, with 20-30% in pay reductions for its senior management team

• On 25 March a letter from the NHS confirmed that NHS funding for dental practises will be secured, if staff "continue to be paid at previous levels".
• Despite this, on 27 March Synergy confirmed they were laying off staff, asking others to take 'as many holidays as possible'.
• A later letter from the NHS on 15 April reiterated that Gov furlough scheme and other gov financial support was available to practices, but decisions by Syngery around staff redundancies had not been reversed, leaving staff unemployed.
• The company has set up an employee support fund, though all money given out must be paid back.
• The company reportedly bought 2 litres of hand sanitiser for £240.

• According to a former employee of Vonder, they are firing staff (some of which only have 1 week's notice, rather than putting them on gov furlough scheme.

Vonder Europe has been approached for comment.

• Barbour has made thousands of gowns to donate to the NHS 

• EDF have partnered with Boots to deliver medicines to the most vulnerable people. Around 70 engineers have volunteered to be part of the scheme

• Louis Vuitton reopens their workshop to make PPE masks and gowns

• Lidl are giving £150 vouchers to staff as a bonus

• Have given thousands of bags of fresh food to NHS staff

• TUI has furloughed 11,000 staff in the UK

According to internal documents that I have seen: 

• TUI has also cancelled the contracts of Summer Cabin Crew, asking staff to pay for their own postage to return any equipment and uniforms to the office.

• On 22 March, EasyJet said they would go ahead with a £174 million dividend payout to shareholders. They said they're not seeking a tax payer bailout
• On 6 April, the airline announced it had secured a £600m loan from UK Treasury and Bank of England
• 4,000 of 9,000 staff will be furloughed during April and May

• Virgin Atlantic has asked staff to take eight weeks paid leave across six months, this is about a 30% pay cut
• Richard Branson has since said he's investing £215 million in the airline
• ‍The airline is expected to seek a government bailout in the coming days
• No news on if staff will be furloughed as part of the Gov scheme

It is unclear what the the company can afford, and if it can stay solvent. It's not getting a 'nope' rating just yet, though I will keep this updated in the coming days

• The Mercedes F1 team has developed a breathing aid, reverse engineering it from an older device. They've made the new design freely available and will be distributing 10,000 of the devices to the Government.

On 22 March, the John Lewis Partnership announced:

• All Waitrose shops will protect batches of ‘hard to find’ and essential stock exclusively for NHS workers to ensure they can access basic shopping items
• NHS staff will receive priority checkout treatment in all Waitrose supermarkets
• John Lewis is donating comfort items such as pillows, phone chargers, eye masks and hand cream, as well as 50,000 Easter treats, to hospitals
• Staff in Waitrose and John Lewis are being offered free meals at work

Plus:

• Discounts for staff have been increased to 25% during Coronavirus
• Staff were being told to make up any time they've taken off, though Waitrose quickly u-turned and said that was the wrong thing to do.

The Evening Telegraph in Dundee reported: 

• Staff at call centres are 'sat less than 1m away' from others, and are asked to come if they are healthy
• Though BT says they are implementing 'social distancing within [their] call centres'
• BT are paying staff who are sick or are in self-isolation

Plus:

• Retail staff will continue to be paid when the stores are closed
• They have made all visits to the NHS online website free
• BT's CEO will donate all of his salary for six months (excluding bonuses) to NHS charities
• BT will not furlough any staff

Live Better With is company that recommends products, writes articles, and has an online community for people with cancer, menopause, dementia and other conditions.

According to internal documents which have been shared with me: 

• Despite a goal pandemic, the company has decided now is a good time to implement a restructure
• Staff are being fired, and won't be paid after their notice period
• Non-compete clauses still apply in their contracts, adding barriers to finding new jobs
• Some employees are being offered furlough (with 80% paid by the gov), but it doesn't apply to everyone

• Actors had their contracts terminated with one week's notice (Credit)
• They were later rehired and put on furlough with 80% of their usual pay, as part of the gov scheme
• Blackpool Tower building is being converted into a food bank
• Not all guests who've booked stays at Thorpe Park or Alton Tower can cancel for free
• Guests who booked stays at Thorpe Park and Alton Towers aren't eligible for a full refund — though guests can change their stay to another date for the same price they originally paid

• Amey, a company that does outsourced maintenance, facilities management, waste collection and more for other businesses, said that workers would only get Statutory Sick Pay if they were ill or needed to self isolate
• They quickly back-tracked after negative headlines, and announced that workers would in fact be fully paid

According to internal documents which I have seen:

• All operations, including stores closed on Tue 24 March
• Staff are paid in full for the following two weeks,
• Staff will then 'use up' any annual leave they have remaining, before being paid 80% of their wages as part of the Gov scheme
• The company has also given staff up to £100 extra for a 'food fund' to help them buy food

• Brewdog has switched its brewery to start producing and distributing free hand sanitiser
• Brewdog is now working with the NHS to improve its sanitiser after it couldn't be used in a clinical environment

According to an internal letter sent to staff, which I have seen:

• Smiggle have asked staff to take unpaid leave while the company waits for money from the Government's furlough scheme
• Employees will be receive back-dated pay (at 80% of their usual salary), but that means it could be weeks where they are going without pay
• No date is set for when the will next be paid

• On 20 March Wren sacks hundreds of staff for 'underperformance' but invites them to 'reconnect' once coronavirus is over
• Many staff were sent the exact same script, and were given one week's pay in lieu of notice – read the letter in full. Their last day was 23 March
• According to one person, they were told 'to stay positive and that the company is cash rich'

• Stena Line is not paying employees who have coronavirus or need to self-isolate. They will only receive statutory sick pay. The company apparently usually has generous sick policy

According to an email sent to customers, Pets at Home have:

• Given all NHS staff get 10% off shopping and vet bills
• Donated £1.1 million in charitable grants
• Fully paid staff who need to shield for 12 weeks or self-isolate
• Created a £1 million staff hardship fund to help staff and families

Posting on Tuesday 24 March, Leon announced: 

• Over 13,800 meals were served to NHS workers at a 50% discount
• Supporting their workers if they choose to stay at home
• Staying open to serve key workers despite losing money
• If they do make a profit, it'll be spent directly on feeding hospital teams

According to internal documents which I have seen, staff who needed to self isolate or take care of a dependant were only being paid Statutory Sick Pay.

• People are calling for their warehouse to close, but the company deny there are any issues

• Sainsbury's are paying a 10% bonus to all permanent hourly paid staff in Sainsbury's and Argos
• But, Sainsbury's own Argos, and are using a 'loophole' to keep 300 in-store branches open

• Monzo's CEO won't take a salary for the next 12 months
• Senior management and the board have volunteered to take a 25% salary cut
• Has a voluntary furlough scheme, where employees can opt in

• There are reports that Asos are forcing workers to work at crowded warehouses
• But, Barnsley Council visited the warehouse and found everything in order, adding 'reports of 3 ambulances visiting the site...have proved to be false'

• Dozens of Café Nero branches have donated food and supplies to NHS workers, hospitals, police officers, pharmacists and food banks

• They're only paying staff 50% of what they've actually earned for the month of March
• Carluccio's have now gone into administration, but most employees will be paid 80% of their salary as part of the Gov's scheme

I've spoken with Greene King directly who have confirmed: 

• Employees will be paid for full month of March, and will be fully paid until the 5 April
• Employees will be paid 80% after that as part of the gov scheme
• Their CEO has taken a 50% pay cut, with all members of the exec board taking a 30% pay cut to help the business
• They've postponed collecting rent along with fees for licensing, insurance, maintenance and services for the foreseeable future

• Free medium pizza for NHS workers available in some stores. As stores are franchised, the availability of these offers is down to individual owners.

Holland and Barrett have announced it is:

• Fully paying staff for three weeks until 17 April
• Paying staff who work in stores or distribution centres an additional 10% above their normal pay
• Paying staff who need to self-isolate or lives with someone at-risk

There is considerable debate on social media about the chain being classed as 'essential', and whether staff have been provided sufficient PPE equipment. If you can verify this, then please get in touch.
